2025 Deep Tech Investment Associate (Munich, Berlin or Zurich)

Permanent employee, Full-time · Zurich, Berlin

Your mission

Joining our Deep Tech team is an exceptional opportunity to help shape Lakestar’s early and growth-stage strategy in one of the most transformative categories in venture. Based out of our Munich, Berlin or Zurich offices, you will work closely with our newly joined Deep Tech Partner, to identify and support breakthrough companies across the deep tech landscape - spanning space tech, novel AI, robotics, resilience & defense, the future of compute and more.

This role demands a strong understanding of deep tech markets and ideally prior experience in investing or building in these sectors. You will be instrumental in sourcing early-stage opportunities (from inception to Series A) as well as evaluating growth-stage (Series B+) companies, helping define our theses and building Lakestar’s deep tech presence and ecosystem in Munich, Zurich and beyond.

Your Responsibilities

Deal Flow and Investment

  • Conduct market research and deep sector dives to identify high-potential deep tech companies across all stages (inception, Seed, Series A, Series B+), analyzing emerging technologies, research trends, and competitive landscapes.

  • Build and maintain a qualified pipeline of companies through proactive sourcing, outbound efforts, and by leveraging Lakestar’s deep network and research capabilities.

  • Evaluate inbound opportunities with rigor, assessing technical feasibility, market potential, and the inflection point of innovation or commercial scalability.

  • Execute deep diligence, from technical whitepaper analysis to market penetration assessments, to determine investment viability across early and growth stages.

  • Prepare internal investment materials including valuation models, scenario planning, and synthesis of technical and commercial signals for decision-making.

  • Present opportunities during internal meetings and contribute strategic perspectives to help sharpen the firm’s investment direction in deep tech.

Network and Ecosystem Development

  • Help build Lakestar’s presence in Munich, Zurich and beyond, cultivating relationships with founders, researchers, and academic labs.

  • Act as a strong ambassador for the firm in the deep tech community – at conferences, demo days, and closed-door summits – articulating our vision and engaging with key stakeholders.

  • Assist in organizing Lakestar-hosted deep tech events and gatherings with ecosystem leaders across Europe.

Portfolio Management

  • Hold some accountability for monitoring KPIs of portfolio companies with your Investment Partner.

  • Attend board meetings together with your Principal/Partner and support with board material preparations.

  • Actively promote portfolio companies and make intros to other VC funds or potential customers.

  • You will own and execute end-to-end projects which will not always be directly related to the daily business of investing and portfolio management, i.e. improve existing internal processes, introduce new software tools or ways of collaboration.

Your profile

As an equal opportunity employer, we value diverse experiences and do not believe in piling on rigid requirements or specific educational backgrounds. However, to thrive in this role, we expect the following:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in venture capital, investment banking, private equity, or deep tech operations, with a track record of evaluating or building in highly technical domains.

  • You’ve been exposed to early-stage investing (Seed / Series A) and understand how to identify companies reaching product-market fit and technology-market fit.

  • You bring a deep curiosity and a structured approach to evaluating emerging technologies, backed by solid analytical and financial modeling capabilities.

  • Experience in or exposure to fields such as space, AI, advanced computing, hardware, defense tech, or robotics is a strong plus.

  • You’re passionate about the European deep tech ecosystem and excited by the opportunity to build from scratch - strategy, network, and presence.

  • You are confident, collaborative, and humble - comfortable pushing your own ideas while working in a team-first, founder-centric environment.

  • You’re based in or open to relocating to Munich, Berlin or Zurich (flexibility around other offices aswell).

This role is Munich, Berlin or Zurich-based, with a focus on building relationships, attending key events, and engaging with the European tech ecosystem. These traits, combined with a proactive mindset and an ability to operate in a collaborative team, will ensure your success in this role.

If this sounds like the right next step in your career, we’d love to hear from you. Application deadline: 09/06/2025
